The Snæfellsnes Peninsula has a lot to offer for landscape photographers, It takes us about two hours to get there by car from Reykjavík.

 

The coastline has many different beaches and lava formations such as the Gatklettur arch at Arnarstapi and the towering Lóndrangar that usually are photographed from Svalþúfubjarg bird cliff, or from the beach at Malarrif. Also on the south side of the peninsula you find the iconic black church at Búðir. The church itself is very photogenic but so is the Búðahraun lava field.

On the north side of the Peninsula the best known location is probably Mount Kirkjufell, close to Grundarfjörður fishing village. The shape of Mount Kirkjufell is unique and the waterfall Kirkjufellsfoss is a popular foreground.

Berserkjahraun lava field is also a good location. This lava field was created after four scoria craters erupted in short intervals around 4000 years ago. The eruption from Grákúla crater created Selvallavatn lake, which is just south of the crater.

If we visit all these locations during the tour it's going to be a long day. Depending on weather and time of year sometimes I prefer to just focus on either the south or north side. The goal isn't always to see everything but rather to spend time on the locations that offers the best photographic opportunities.

Having a private tour means we don't have to follow a fixed schedule. Every day is different and each client has his own approach and needs - that I do my best to meet.
